Rev. Joel Hunter Visiting CCC/TSPM

Rev. Joel Hunter, senior pastor of Northland Church in Orlando, Florida, USA, and his wife visited CCC/TSPM on the noon of May 23, 2010.


Elder Fu Xianwei, Chair of National TSPM and Rev. Kan Baoping, General Secretary of CCC received them. Rev. Hunter introduced himself as a member of the President¡¯s Advisory Council on Faith-based Partnerships and the spiritual tutor of President Obama. He assists Obama on reading Bible and devotional materials every week. He visited Beijing, Yinchuan and Shanghai this time. The main purpose for his visit is to understand the real situation of the church in China, learn the experience of having inter-faith dialogue and peaceful coexistence among different religions in China. According to Rev. Hunter¡¯s saying, the USA is worried about the religious problems, especial Islam issues. How to deal with these problems correctly is one of the major tasks for the President¡¯s Advisory Council on Faith-based Partnerships.

Elder Fu and Rev. Kan extended warm welcome to the guests on behalf of CCC/TSPM, meanwhile, also admired Rev. Hunter¡¯s thought on seeking peace among different religions. Elder Fu wished that our two parts can have dialogue and cooperation on how to build a harmonious society and how to establish a low-carbon life in the future.

On the morning of the same day, Rev. Hunter preached at Gospel Church at Pudong District. His sermon title is HEAVENLY CHURCHES AND FAMILIES: AN ATTITUDE OF RESPECT. Rev. Lou Shibo, Executive Vice Principal of Zhejiang Theological Seminary translated for him. After the Sunday service, the congregation thanked for Rev. Hunter¡¯s sermon and expressed that they learned a lot through the sermon.
